Overview
Angola is situated on the west coast of South-central Africa. The country has a varied terrain encompassing tropical Atlantic beaches, a labyrinthine system of rivers and Sub-Saharan desert that extends across the border into Namibia.
The coastline of Southern Angola is rural, remote, and wild. It’s an adventure that’s not for the faint of heart, featuring epic shore-based fishing between flamingo Lodge (base camp), The Dunes, Namibe & Tombwa areas.

The Setup
Each winter, as the sardines make their way down the coast, our team travels all the way to Angola – fully loaded – to set up a semi-permanent, high-quality tented camp at Flamingo Bay, one of the most remote fishing grounds you’ll ever get to fish in.
We like to keep things in our control. That’s why we bring our own generators, freezers, and high-quality food across 4,000km and two African borders. It’s a serious journey, but it means you get a serious fishing experience – in the middle of nowhere.
Remote doesn’t mean rough. With us, it means comfort in a place very few people ever get to see. We always travel with two vehicles for safety, and we bring all the gear — so all you need to bring is yourself and a fishing spirit.
This is not a commercial setup. We keep it small, just 5-6 guests at a time, each with two professional fishing guides and well-kitted 4×4 vehicles at their disposal. It’s an experience built to be smooth, personal, and one you won’t easily forget.

What you Can Expect on the daily
Every morning starts with a plan. Our guides know this coast well. They check the tide, the wind, and the size of the sea. Then they head straight for a spot that has been working well.
But the ocean always has the final say. Out here, you fish for what’s in front of you, not just what’s on the plan.
We often drive along the shore for hours, covering up to 60km of coastline. We’re not just driving — we’re hunting. We look for birds diving and feeding. Where the birds feed, the big fish feed too. Find the birds, find the fish.
Most days we focus on spinning. We cast spoons, plugs, and soft lures to trigger a strike. It’s fast, fun, and hands-on. But when a trophy fish is on the cards, we’re ready for that too. We carry live and dead baits, and this is where our specialty really comes in.
You’ll fish in small groups, with two expert guides for every six anglers. Each guide has their own 4×4, so we can move fast and stay flexible. This keeps things personal — you’re never just one of a crowd.
When your group is full at six, we often split into two teams of three. Sometimes it’s a rotation, so everyone gets a turn at every style. Sometimes it’s based on what you want most. A typical day might start with everyone spinning together in the morning. Then, in the afternoon, one team heads off to try live bait fishing in a promising spot, while the other chases one last spinning session into the sunset.
We adapt all day, every day. Whatever it takes to help you land your dream fish.
Although this destination is great for non-experienced anglers and youngsters, it is also hard work. Year after year, we see the same thing. The anglers who keep casting, who wade a little further, who push through a bit more water, get the most out of every trip. The ones who put in the effort get the biggest rewards. So bring your fishing spirit and be ready to work for your dream catch.
And when the sun sets, fishing doesn’t have to stop. Our base camp sits just 150m from the water’s edge. Some nights mean a shark session right at camp, lines out under the stars.

Day 1: Arrive in Namibe at Welwitschia Airport around middayArrive in Namibe at Welwitschia Airport around midday. Our Go Fish Africa team will pick you up and drive you to camp – about a 1.5-hour trip by road. Enjoy a cold Angolan beer as you take in the surreal landscape on the way to camp. Once you’re settled in and comfortable, we’ll break down the tides and the plan for the week (although we’re always trained to adapt based on results!).

Day 2: First Full Day of FishingDay one of fishing is always a bit of an adjustment, as you find your feet and start to learn the fish’s feeding habits and the techniques our guides teach you. Pick up on your shortfalls and celebrate getting on the board – catching your first fish on day one of your Southern Africa Angola fishing expedition.

Day 3: Head Out to Old HangoutsMore familiar with your surroundings and the fishing techniques, day 2 of fishing is often the most exciting for you as a fisherman. Eager to use what you learnt yesterday, you go out motivated and excited to catch some of what this beautiful coastline has to offer.

Day 4: Your bucket list is ticking off beautifullyYou continue to learn, and by now you’ve found your feet and hopefully you’re enjoying some good fish activity. By now you should have a realistic expectation of the trip, and you’ll have ticked a few fish off your bucket list. The next few days are about growing that list and catching more. It’s possible that by now you’re willing to make certain sacrifices to ensure you get your dream catch for the trip. For example: skip the spinning session to target a monster Garrick on live bait. Or vice versa

Day 5: Still fishing hard & chasing the big oneAnother full day on the water. By now you know the drill, and it’s all about putting in the time to chase down more of what’s on your list. The fishing rhythm feels natural now, and every cast still holds the chance of something special. Enjoy the process — this is what you came for.

Day 6: Overnight expedition to IonaThis is generally the most exciting day of the trip! Every expedition includes an overnight, full 24-hour stint into Iona, the oldest national park in Africa. This is a stretch of a couple hundred kilometers of beach that we have special access to through the park. We leave base camp and travel in convoy — two vehicles together — along the coast. Very few people ever get to access this coastline. Imagine driving for kilometer after kilometer along a beach with no houses or man-made structures in sight, while your guides read the water and stop wherever it looks promising. Drive, stop, cast. Drive, stop, cast. Until you find the fish! And it gets better. The guides set up camp right on the water’s edge, giving you the chance to fish this rich system as much as you want, right through the night — all while staying in the comfort of our great quality tents. It’s a big effort by the team, but one that’s well worth it, and it makes for a truly exciting day. Note: this day may be swapped depending on the weather.

Day 7: Wake up to the natural beauty of IonaWake up to the sound of crashing waves in Iona park and pick up the day where you left it the previous evening. The sunrise bite is usually good, so it’s worth getting in and on the action early. It’s hard work, but ABC is a great mindset to have — Always Be Casting. You do get rewarded for effort in this beautiful fishery. After another full day, you head back to base camp.

Day 8: FarewellsIt’s time to head home and reflect on an authentic African experience. Well done on doing what very few people would ever do. Transfer to Namibe by car with the team, and fly out to Luanda that day.
