About Go Fish Africa
Welcome to our world of passion and sustainability, where fishing is more than just a sport—it’s a way of life. We are deeply committed to the principles of sustainable fishing practices and proudly advocate for the importance of catch-and-release. By releasing our catches, we ensure the preservation of fish populations, allowing them to thrive and ensuring abundant fishing opportunities for years to come.
In collaboration with the esteemed Ocean Research Institute (ORI), we actively participate in tagging fish and compiling essential data for scientific research. Through this partnership, we strive to deepen our understanding of marine ecosystems and contribute to their long-term health and vitality.
At the helm of our operation is Duvan van Breda, a visionary leader who has assembled a remarkable team of fishing travel experts and professional guides. With their unparalleled knowledge and expertise in angling, we are dedicated to crafting fishing tours that transcend expectations, transforming them into truly unforgettable experiences. Whether your heart yearns for the rugged charm of camping in Angola, where the desert meets the vastness of the ocean, or the allure of exploring the vibrant reefs of St Lazarus Banks, we are here to help you realize your fishing dreams. Together, we will navigate the waters, cast our lines, and chase after those elusive species that have found a special place in your bucket list.
Meet the Team
Duvan van Breda – Owner
Duvan, a passionate fisherman, environmentalist, and entrepreneur, grew up along the pristine shores of Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, where his love for the ocean and fishing took root. After completing his BComm Entrepreneurship degree at Stellenbosch University, Duvan’s passion for angling remained his guiding light.
In his early years, he quickly made a name for himself in competitive fishing, representing the Western Province U21 team and, by age 19, earning a spot on the Senior A side, one of the youngest ever to do so. His success led to selection as a Protea angler, and he now proudly holds three Springbok Protea caps, continuing to represent South Africa.
After completing his studies, Duvan returned to the East Coast to pursue his dream: leading local and international anglers on unforgettable adventures. What began as a part-time venture, “Fishing with Duvan van Breda,” has since grown into the thriving Go Fish Africa.
A strong advocate for marine conservation, Duvan champions “tag & release” practices to protect South Africa’s rich marine life. While some species are caught for the table, sustainability is at the core of his philosophy.
As founder of Go Fish Africa, Duvan leads a handpicked team of skilled, passionate guides ensuring every guest enjoys a safe, professional, and memorable experience on the water.
Phillip Meyer: (senior head guide)
Born near the wild Transkei coast, Philip is a passionate South African fisherman with an infectious love for the ocean. After qualifying as a tour guide in Cape Town, he joined Go Fish Africa to pursue his dream of guiding full-time. With years of land-based sport fishing experience locally and abroad, Philip is known for building strong client relationships and mentoring young anglers with energy, faith, and enthusiasm.
Liam Bartnick: (Senior head guide)
A passionate angler from Cape Town, Liam’s love for fishing began at the age of two. By nine, he was already immersed in the world of competitive angling, and it’s been a driving force in his life ever since. Now, living the dream as a full-time fishing guide, Liam brings years of experience, an unwavering passion, and a competitive edge to every tour. His enthusiasm is contagious, and his deep knowledge of fishing makes him an invaluable part of the Go Fish Africa team.
